We are often asked How to plan a Baby Shower in Ireland. A baby shower can be one of the most memorable occasions for a mum to be. It is one of the biggest events an expectant mother can have before having her baby. We all know how tired new mums can be and a baby shower may be one of her last opportunities to spend quality time with her friends and family and feel like the most important person in the room.
So, if you’re planning on throwing a baby shower to remember, we have a list of 10 things that you can keep in mind as her best friend!
Our top Baby Shower planning tips
- Figure out a budget
This is one of the most important things you will do. If you are splitting the cost between a few pals or family, it’s imperative that you decide who is paying, how much are they paying and how much you have to spend. You need to be mindful of the finances to ensure there is no conflict of interest later on! Remember to stay within the budget and not go overboard too!
- Choose a Venue
Depending on the number of people you’re going to be inviting and the budget you need to decide where to host the party. Choosing a venue can be as simple as hosting in your back garden or somebodies house. If you do decide to book an external venue, always remember to book the venue well in advance since this is one of the main aspects of hosting the baby shower.
- Select a date and time
Choose a date & time that’s suitable to all the expectant mothers’ friends and family. She would ideally want all her loved ones to attend. A weekend would be ideal for all the guests.
- Plan the decor & theme
If you know the gender of the baby, you can plan the party around it. But, if you don’t, you can always have another theme like a Lux theme or a Rainbow theme. The decor and theme must go hand in hand. Balloons and fresh flowers are always a nice addition to have.
- Send out invites
List down everyone you think that needs to be invited to the baby shower. Get the list cross checked by the mother to ensure no one is left out. Then you can send out text messages, hand make cards or print out some really cute cards and post them to the attendees. Remember to send invites well in advance so that everyone invited can align their schedules accordingly.
- Plan fun activities and games to play
Look up fun activities and games you can play so that everyone present can have a good time. Games can include cleaning a baby’s dirty diaper or guessing the mother’s measurements.
- Arrange food
You can do the food yourself, or you can find caterers that will take care of all the food arrangements so that you don’t need to stress about it. But remember to note if someone has food allergies or to include vegan or vegetarian options too! Generally, food caterers will also take care of drinks – so that’s one less thing you need to worry about!
- Buy gifts
Spoil your girl with gifts! Not necessarily just for the baby, but also some self care products that she can use for the much needed “Me Time” post birth. You can buy her some scented candles or even a facial kit. Before buying gifts for the baby, we recommend double checking with the mom if she already has a similar item so that there are no doubles!
- Keep the Mum in loop
While we encourage surprises and big celebrations, we also encourage you to keep the Mum in the loop about the invitation lists and baby gifts. Although let the theme and games be a fun surprise for her!
- Finally, think of the dad too!
We wouldn’t want dads to feel left out! After all, his life will be changing drastically soon. Remember to include him in your celebrations and make him feel special too.
Most of all we recommend you, your friends and the parents enjoy the day. Live in the moment and spend quality time together because before you know it, you may have a crying baby as a part of your gang 😉
