Sip and See Parties

Sip and See Parties

Sip and See parties have taken the USA by storm. They are fast becoming a popular way over here for everyone to meet your new baby and celebrate. A Sip and See is basically a Baby Shower party that’s held after your baby arrives where friends and family are invited to ‘see’ your new arrival and ‘sip’ some drinks.

They can be a real boon for hard pressed new Mums and have quite a few advantages. One of the reasons Sip and See parties have taken off. Is that they are a super opportunity to bring your friends and family together all at once. So that busy Mum’s don’t have to cope with a constant stream of visitors wanting to see the new arrival. Lots of visitors popping in unannounced at all times of the day can put Mums under pressure. Especially if you are trying to establish breast feeding or a routine for you and your baby. Or just trying to catch up on some sleep!

In the first few weeks after the birth of your baby things can become a little hectic and entertaining rounds of visitors with endless cups of tea and constant tidying up can be overwhelming. Organising a Sip and See party is the perfect solution!

Another benefit is that with a planned Sip and See party you can also enlist help from your friends or family to lighten the load of arranging the party and making snacks. The last thing new Mums need is the hassle of what to prepare for incoming guests!

Sip and See parties can be held any time after baby arrives and can be for second or third babies (or more!) too. A big advantage is that Sip and See parties normally have set hours for guests to drop in. Which means that Mum and baby won’t get too tired. Most Sip and See parties are held in the afternoon and last a couple of hours. Best of all, you can set the timing of your Sip and See party to fit round your baby’s schedule so that you and your little one don’t get stressed out. They can be organised so that visitors call in between your baby’s feeds or naps.

What’s more men can feel more comfortable attending a Sip and See party whereas Baby Showers tend to traditionally be a ‘girl-only’ event. Sip and See Parties suit couples as partners are welcome and mean that Grandads, Uncles – and Dads of course! – can join in and share in the celebration.

Sip and See parties are also a chance for New Mums to see their friends again in a social setting which can be a tonic for Mums who are feeling a little isolated or cooped up. They are a wonderful way to for everyone to get to know your new baby but are also a wonderful way for Mums to enjoy themselves too!

Gift giving at Sip and See parties is optional but few people can resist buying gifts for new babies and as Sip and See parties are held after the baby’s birth visitors will know if the baby is a boy or a girl which makes gift giving a lot easier. Visitors can also buy the correct size of clothing for the baby rather than use guess work! Favours are a nice way of saying ‘thank you’ and make good keepsakes and mementos of the occasion. As everyone will be together all at once, a Sip and See party is a great setting for family photographs with the new baby. So make sure there is a camera to hand.
