Looking to hide that bump for another bit longer? Christmas is a difficult time to do this so check out our tips on How To Keep It On The QT Over Christmas below!
So you received some amazing news and will be welcoming a new arrival in a few months. Amazing! However, you want to keep this exciting news quiet for another while. This can be challenging at any time of the year especially at Christmas time….oh dear. This time of year is packed with parties, alcohol and food. You can’t drink, you may not be allowed or able to eat certain food and your energy levels are low. So how do you hide a this big news at the busiest time of the year?
Don’t stress ladies! Check out our tips below to help you make it through the holiday season with your secret intact.
- Buddy up!
Have you told a close friend your exciting news yet? If so, keep her in the loop. Tell her that she needs to be your wing woman for the night. This friend can offer to order your drink for you, distract the group when needed or take your drink when the girls are not looking. We are sure she won’t turn down an extra drink anyway! Having your other half by your side is always handy over Christmas. He can offer to get your drink all night (what a thoughtful guy) so no one needs to know. If your friend or other half drinks the same drink as you all night then you can swap glasses on the sly throughout the night. This way it will look like you are drinking as normal. Sneaky!
- Tell the barman
A good idea would be to tell the barman that you are pregnant but wish to keep it a secret on the night. Come to an agreement where throughout the night you will ask for a drink, such as gin and tonic, but he simply leaves out the gin. However, always smell test the drink beforehand. The barman may agree to help you out but he might also be super busy and forget. If you are the one getting a round of drinks, ask for cocktails and order yourself a mocktail. If the barman knows you are not drinking, ask him to make the same cocktail as the others but without the alcohol.
- Play the ‘unwell’ card
This excuse can work when it comes to both alcohol and food. If you need to avoid certain foods that you would normally eat, this is a great one. Order them anyway but tell the girls early on in the night that you are not feeling the best. This way they will not expect you finish your meal and you can leave certain foods on the plate. If this plan won’t work for some reason, simply say that you are too full to finish. If a bottle of wine is ordered at the table, tell the group that you are on antibiotics and cannot drink. As this is the time of year when everyone gets sick, they will surely believe you. Perfect!
- Keep it loose
When it comes to clothing, keep it loose. You don’t want to wear any clothing that will accentuate the bump you are trying to hide. Think shift dresses, wrap tops and dresses and floaty shirts. Layering is another great idea to hide that bump and will never go out of fashion. Add a nice blazer to your outfit to disguise the bump. If your bump isn’t too big, adding a wide belt around your waist will hold everything in. Avoid empire waistlines. This will just make your bump more pronounced and get people talking. The trick is to stick with your normal style but stay away from fitted outfits. If you are a lover of black clothes, stick with that just go for a loose fitted top and jeans or a baggy dress.
- Designated driver
Offer to be the designated driver for the night. Complain about how long it takes to get a taxi over Christmas and offer up your services. If this doesn’t work, tell the girls that you have to collect your dad or brother from the pub and bring them home later. White lies never hurt anyone 😉 Promise to tag along on another big night in January. At this stage you will be ready to tell them your exciting news!
- Nurse that drink
If you do end up with an alcoholic drink in your hand, nurse it. We have all done it on a night out ladies. You are too busy chatting, laughing and dancing and you forget all about your drink. Do this on purpose and act shocked when one of the girls points it out. How did that happen?!
So keep these tips in mind to hide that bump over Christmas. Remember, if you have to cancel plans then do. Your family and friends will understand when you explain why in a few weeks. Then it’s time to celebrate all over again!
