Food for Thought – Baby Shower Catering Ideas: Cute Mini Bites
Mini bites are a great way of catering for a home held Baby Shower. They may be small in size but they are big on taste – and can be as easy to make or as elaborate as you like. Modern, fun to eat and cute it’s plain to see why mini bites are so popular. What’s more they can be made to fit in with any Baby Shower theme and I have some super examples to inspire you!
Firstly, these pretty pastel pink and blue pacifiers are made from biscuits coated in coloured icing, stuck together, and white jelly beans.
You can also use polo mints in exactly the same way – they make lovely decorations for mini cup cakes!
If you fancy getting creative these tiny Penguins are easy to make using cream cheese, carrots and black olives. Step by step instructions can be found here.
Ladybird mini bites are made from cherry tomatoes, pitted black olives, cream cheese and crackers. You will need:
2 oz soft cream cheese (you can use garlic or herb flavoured cream cheese if you prefer)
2 tablespoons sour cream
Black paste food coloring (for the dots)
36 crackers
18 cherry tomatoes, quartered
18 large pitted black olives
Big bunch of fresh chives (cut into pieces about 1-1/2 inches long)
Beat the cream cheese and sour cream together in a bowl. Remove 1 tablespoon of the mixture and tint black.
Spread the rest of the mixture over the crackers. Arrange 2 cherry tomato quarters on each cracker to make the Ladybird wings. Use the tinted black mixture to make the spots on the wings. Cut the black olives in half (widthwise), place one half on each cracker to make the head and insert 2 chives into each olive head for antenna.
These mini hedgehogs are made with cheese triangles and flaked almonds and these little mice are hard boiled eggs, halved, with thinly cut radishes for their ears.
