Celebrity Baby Showers and the Rise of the Babymoon

Celebrity Baby Showers and the Rise of the Babymoon

Beautiful Model Pippa O’Connor and her TV presenter husband Brian Ormond are expecting their first baby this month and Pippa’s Baby Shower party was held in February. Reality TV star Brian Dowling was on hand to help and Pippa told the press how much she enjoyed her Baby Shower:

“Brian will be fairy godmother regardless of who else is godmother. He’s very excited. We had a great day on Sunday, baby showers are so nice. It was brilliant to get everyone together before the baby arrives.”

Pippa has worked throughout her pregnancy and has taken on the role as the new face of Mothercare, joining Anna Daly and Sarah McGovern as previous ambassadors. However she did take time out to go on Babymoon over Christmas in Dubai. Babymoons are booming with many celebrities opting to fly off abroad before they go past the legal limit for taking a flight.

Babymoon

The Babymoon is a relatively new idea and it is just like taking a honeymoon except that you’re pregnant; the purpose is to have one last holiday as a couple before the new baby arrives. Babymoons became fashionable around 2004 in the USA. And the notion of spending special time together before venturing into parenthood quickly took off.

Lots of celebrity couples saw the Babymoon as an opportunity to savour and enjoy the pregnancy whilst in a relaxed and luxurious atmosphere. Kim Kardashian and Kayne West went to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Kate Middleton and Prince William went to the island of Mustique and Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan went to the Caribbean.

The travel industry has caught on to the idea and there are now luxury resorts that cater to celebrities (and those who can afford it) offering services like prenatal massage and pampering spa treatments for expectant Mums and golfing packages for Dads-to-be. Jars of pickles and all-you-can-eat ice cream are even included on the menus!

Travelling

It’s generally safe for pregnant women to travel during the second trimester. As long as they take sensible precautions and take their doctor’s advice and use common sense. Whilst first-time parents are the ones strongly encouraged to Babymoon. The travel industry is making its case for those already with children and having more. However outside the celebrity circles Babymoons evict strong emotions with people either decidedly for or against them.

One of the biggest arguments against Babymoons is the expense. Many couples are saving up at this point time of the pregnancy for all the equipment the new baby will need. Of course you don’t have to fly to exotic destinations in order to go on a pre-birth getaway. Long flights aren’t usually the most comfortable experience for Mums-to-be, nor are long drives for that matter! Some couples have adapted the idea into a mini-Babymoon. And go away for a long weekend somewhere not to far from their door. I think they are a lovely idea and I certainly enjoyed my babymoon on my first pregnancy. I’d be interested to hear what you think – would you go on a Babymoon . . or not?
