Bring a book
Ask your guests to bring a book in lieu of a congratulations card. This idea is so utterly charming and totally unique. Perfect for the mom-to-be who is a bookworm and loves to read. This idea is every bit as sentimental as giving a card. Your guests might bring a new copy of their favourite book as a child, or a book that their own kids adore. What a great way to start the new babies very own library!
Your guests can leave a little note inside the book. Often, books will have a ‘To and From’ page where this information can be filled in, along with the date. It will be so nice to see that the book your child is reading when they are eight, was given to them by their aunt, uncle or family friend when they were still a bump. So, when you are sending out your invitations – include the ‘Bring a Book’, message.
This activity is a great way for people to get to know one another via what their favourite children’s books are! There are even some special cloth books made for babies that are very small which would be perfect. Some may hit up the bookshop to buy the latest hit in the children’s section and others will go for the old Brothers Grimm classics.
